06-08-2009 - 07-24-2009	Space is available for summer art camps at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County Camden—School’s out, which means more time for fun at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC). This July the FAC is offering more opportunities than ever for children of all ages to explore their creativity. Art Camp will offer creative exploration of a variety of visual art media for both pre-school and elementary age campers. In each session, campers will take a “road trip” to either California or Canada. Also, FAC’s popular Theatre Camp is back this summer, with two age-specific sessions led by instructors from Columbia Children’s Theatre. Both art and theatre camps will have sessions the weeks of July 14 and 21. New this summer, the FAC is offering a week of Kindermusik, which is designed for young children to experience with their parents. Spaces are still available in all of the programs. REGISTRATION Register a week or more before the beginning of a session to guarantee an opening for your child. Space may not be available for last-minute campers. ART CAMPS Art Camp 2009 ($85 per session) For campers who have completed 1st grade through 12 years of age Session #1: July 13, 14, & 15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Session #2: July 20, 21, & 22, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Art Camp promotes self-esteem, cooperation and creative problem solving, all centered on having fun with the arts. Campers work with artists in a variety of visual art media (may include but is not limited to clay, paint, oil pastels, colored pencil). Campers will investigate the geography, climate, plants and animals at their “road trip” destinations. Campers bring their own bag lunch. A beverage is provided. Pre-School Art Camp ($45 per session) For campers age 4 through those who have not completed 1st grade Session #1: July 16 & 17, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (California) Session #2: July 23 & 24, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Canada) Campers explore a variety of art media. Campers will "visit" the the west coast and our neighbor to the north. The program is a blend of guided explorations at intriguing "arts centers" (such as the costume box) and group activities designed to spur their curiosity. A mid-morning snack is provided. THEATRE CAMPS Fantasy Fun Theatre Camp ($150) For ages 5 and up who have completed pre-K through 3rd grade July 13 – 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the perfect introduction to the world of theatre for early learners. Campers will explore the basics of creative expression, story telling & pantomime. Students will showcase their work in a story-theatre production on Friday at 3 p.m. Acting Up! Theatre Camp ($150) For campers who have completed grades 4 through 8 July 20-24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Acting Up! Camp is designed especially for those middle years when young performers are growing and changing. Campers are exposed to more advanced acting challenges and will present a showcase performance on Friday at 3 p.m. KINDERMUSIK SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR CHILD AND PARENT Creatures in My Backyard ($90) For ages 18 months -3 years July 6-10, 10-10:50 a.m. Give children something to sing about in their own backyards. Be the flower from the “seed’s” perspective. Run and jump in rain puddles made from hula hoops. Shoo flies and sing “Shoo Fly.” Registration fee includes take-home materials if registration is received by June 24. Confetti Days ($90) For ages 3-5 years July 6-10, 11-11:50 a.m. Throw a new party every day. Ride a carousel inside the classroom. Play a balancing game and walk on the web of ropes. Do a musical move and freeze. Learn colors and sing the Spanish song “De Colures,” Pop, Goes the Weasel,” and “looby Loo.” Registration fee includes take-home materials if registration is received by June 24. Registration forms for all of the summer programs are available on-line (www.fineartscenter.org.) and at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County box office. The FAC is located at 810 Lyttleton Street in Camden. Office hours are 10am – 5pm Monday – Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday, hours are 10:00am – 6:00pm. 07-06-2009 - 07-10-2009	The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County is looking for talented young visual artists and actors this The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County is looking for talented young visual artists and actors this July Camden-Young visual artists and actors, are you thinking about a career in the arts, thinking about majoring in an arts field in college or just want to take your theatre or visual art skills to the next level? The Arts Scholars program at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County July 6 - 10 may be for you. Arts Scholars is a Kershaw County public school program for students who have been identified as gifted or talented in the arts and who are committed to or seriously interested in investigating a career in the arts. The Arts Scholars program provides aspiring young artists the opportunity to develop and refine artistic skills in an atmosphere saturated with the arts. Students will experience the level of commitment necessary to pursue the arts as a career. The young artists will enjoy the gains made possible by professional guidance and intense practice and study. The program is operated by the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County. Program dates are Monday through Friday, July 6 through 10, 2009. Hours are 8:30 AM until 3:30 PM. Students must have attended a Kershaw County public school the year prior to attending this summer program. The program serves students in 7, 8, 9 and 10 grades (rising 8, 9, 10 & 11 grade) from the Kershaw County public schools. Students audition for the program and are selected based on performance and potential in an individual arts area (visual art or drama.)
