Target Corporation is recognized as the most philanthropic company in the United States. For more than 60 years Target has given back 5 percent of its income which equals $3 million dollars a week.
Gene Wise considers himself fortunate to be associated with the Target Corporation. As the General Manager of the Target Distribution Center, he has supported Kershaw County community programs consistent with Target’s philosophy.
In the three years the Distribution Center has been open, Target has donated over $100,000 in school supplies, grants for education programs, plus, thousands of volunteer hours in support of educators.
In addition, based on a Partner in Education initiative developed by Target and implemented at Blaney elementary school, the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce decided to utilize the concept and encourage all businesses to adopt a school. Currently, over 60 organizations have adopted a school and no school is without a business partner.
As Vice-President of Education for the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, Gene continues to be highly involved in having the business community support excellence in education by investing in the workforce of tomorrow.
